We’ve had our fair share of lemons when it comes to dishwashers. They were usually the dishwashers that came with the house and were pretty low quality so I didn’t think much about what I could do to help them work more efficiently. But recently, we were gifted a powerful new Hybrid Stainless Steel Interior Dishwasher from GE. You can read more about it and why we love it here.
I wanted to keep it running like new so I’ve learned a few helpful tricks for caring for my dishwasher. These tips are easy, inexpensive and have kept our dishwasher looking clean and running like new.
3 Easy Steps to Keep Your Dishwasher Working Like New:
1. Even though our dishwasher is really powerful and has successfully cleaned even the messiest lasagna pans with burnt sauce and cheese I always try to scrape my dishes and rinse them if they really messy. It helps keep the filters clean and the dishwasher doesn’t have to work as hard or run as long to produce sparkling clean dishes.
2. The food, grease, and messes that are rinsed off the dishes have to go somewhere. So every couple of weeks I make sure to pull the filter out of our dishwasher and rinse it under hot water. When I’ve forgotten to do this I’ll start to notice over time that the dishes aren’t looking quite as clean. When I pull the filter out, it’s obvious why. It can’t do it’s job if it’s already all clogged up.
3. Once a month I run an empty cycle with a cup of vinegar on the top rack. I add 1 drop of doTERRA lemon essential oil to clean and disinfect the whole dishwasher. If you don’t have or use essential oils you could squeeze half a lemon into the cup of vinegar.
That’s it. Do you have any tips for keeping your dishwasher working it’s best?
