I’ll be honest, the past couple of weeks have been rough. I’ve had many days of calling my mom in tears about frustrations I have with this Candida diet I’m on and more than that, with the fact that after 2 months of completely turning over my diet, my symptoms have hardly subsided. It seemed every day was a struggle, I was stressed out, and knowing that stress contributes to both Candida and Hashimoto’s I was stressing out about stressing out: not a good cycle.
Until finally, I caught a break. Let me preface this by saying that a few years ago I had a food sensitivities/allergies test done and the results were horrendous. Because of my leaky gut, I had a 5 page list of foods I wasn’t supposed to eat; needless to say I didn’t exactly stick with that diet.
So, when my doctor decided to bring me in for this same test… well I kind of wanted to go running in the opposite direction. But I didn’t, instead I flew out to Texas and had my blood taken to find out if the news would be doom and gloom yet again (a prospect I had no desire to face).
Finally, after 2 1/2 weeks of waiting, the results are in.
When I saw that the amount of foods I couldn’t have fit on a 2 x 4″ card that could fit in my wallet, I literally wept with relief. Not only was I relieved about the shortness of this list of foods , but I was relieved because this list makes complete sense of the fact that my symptoms haven’t subsided, I have eaten eggs and almonds every day for the past 2 months! Also, having so few allergens show up in my blood work tells me I have successfully healed my leaky gut (yey me!). So I’ll be very excited to report back in the next week or so about how this shift will have affected my energy levels, digestion, hair, and skin.
p.s. My results came in the mail on the same day that my certificate of completion for my Health Coaching practice came in the mail… there are no coincidences in life.
