We are very lucky that my husband’s family and my family have each rented condos at the beach this summer and invited us to spend the week with them. I love the beach and I’m so excited to spend two weeks playing in the surf and sun with our families. Naturally, I’ve had my eye on some fun beach accessories. I was surprised at the creativity of several designers who’ve found a way to recycle unique items like candy wrappers and phone books into stylish, functional purses and beach bags.
These are some of my favorites.
Maggie Bags- Every year millions of yards of seat-belts are rejected by auto manufactures due to minor color variations. Maggie Bags has transformed these cast-offs into colorful, durable, trendy bags that can be found online and on Overstock.com. This is my personal fav.
Reiter 8 Totes - This company rescues old sailboat sails from landfills and uses them to make fun, preppy totes, messenger bags, pillows and more. Considering the source, you can’t help but think beach when you see these bags.
Bee Country- I found this brand on Etsy and I was drawn to the casual creativity. Using burlap fabric, rope and recycled burlap coffee sacks, this designer makes fun, stylish bags in a variety of shapes and sizes perfect for the beach, pool or farmer’s market. An anchor applique gives this bag a particularly beachy feel that perfectly compliments this season’s sailor-style trend.
Ecoist - I think this company gets the award for most creative use of materials. Their bags are made from recycled candy wrappers – pretty sweet! This is my personal favorite for the beach. The candy wrappers are braided giving it the ability to hold up to 35 pounds. Plus, it’s water resistant. It reminds me of the popular braided straw bags, but more sustainable and modern.
I think any of these bags would be a great addition to my summer beach accessories. Which would you choose?
